U.S. defends airstrike on Afghan village
The U.S. military on Wednesday defended an airstrike earlier this week on a southern Afghan village that killed at least 16 civilians, saying its troops were being fired on and they had the right to defend themselves.
I don't think that such attitude will help them to win minds and souls of Afghan people. They could've known that fleeing Taliban fighters will search for shelter among local people. When you come under attack, you don't think about the consequences at that time. The only thing you are concerned is to search for a shelter. On the other hand, the American and coalition forces knew what will happen if they attack and bomb Taliban's Madrassa (religious school).
President Hamid Karzi has ordered an investigation into the bombings but I don't think that we'll be able to know the outcome of it since a number of investigations have been conducted in the past and we are still waiting for the results.

The US has killed countless number of civilians in the name of war on terror. It’s about time we Afghans get up and defend the lives of our fellow innocent nationals and hold the US army accountable for murdering people. In Iraq there is at least a headcount when it comes to the number of civilians that died, but in Afghanistan, there has been no count on the number of innocent people that died as a result of US bombing. Let us also not forget the wedding incident in Afghanistan where about 300 Afghans were killed and the international media did not even care about us. It is our responsibility to express our frustration and do something about it otherwise no one will hear us and the US will continue to abuse the respect we’ve given them in our country and Afghanistan will become another Iraq where all Afghans will start seeing Americans as aggressive blood-thirsty vampires that have gone mad on a killing rampage.
We have given US many chances without saying anything about civilian deaths for too long. Additionally, Afghans have also not said anything about the torture of prisoners in Bagram airbase - it’s like a no-Afghan zone that is totally controlled by the Americans. The excuse of killing taliban at the cost of more and more innocent Afghans is not going to be tolerated anymore and if Americans can’t help us (the “reason” for which they are supposedly there), then they should just leave and go look for Osama Bin Laden. The truth is Americans have failed in Afghanistan as much as they have in Iraq - they have failed miserably!!!

Do you think Afghanistan can survive without Americans? You might again see different groups of Mujahideen positioning in every hills, fighting each other.

‘Do you think Afghanistan can survive without Americans?’… (Becky Kelly).
I wonder how Afghanistan survived for so many centuries without the Americans. Perhaps they are now learning that they have lived misrable lives and America is the messiah they had been waiting for.
May I respectfully suggest Becky that you learn a little the history of Afghanistan and discover its rich and properous past. Yes many generations ago it was wealty and a happy nation and also, and this may surprise you, a secular nation. Until the wolf of British colonialism threatened to blow the house down with a little haugh and a little puff. But, the Afghans, God bless them are a stubborn prople, they still have not opened the door to the wolf(s). So the wolf(s) over the centuries has(have been forcing it(there) way in. What do expect Afghans to do? They have nowhere else to go, what with asylum applications being turned down to people of this region, espcially if called Muhammed, and Amercia and Europe introduing ‘anti-terror’ laws to restrict freedom of speech.
‘You might again see different groups of Mujahideen positioning in every hills, fighting each other.’ (Becky Kelly).
Its called guerilla warfare. Of a kind that was waged against the Russians when they invaded Afghanistan on 27 December 1979 and one that America was keen to support to stop the Russians gettin their hands on oil. It is intereting that you have used the word Mujahideen and not terrorists. Thank you for being polite/diplomatic. You will no doubt be aware then that that is the word the Americans used at the time as well.
I am sorry I have gone on and on. I must stop here. I await others’ comments.

Well said asultan! Very well said! And Becky, with all due respect, I certainly would love to see peace in my country but not at the expense of the lives of innocent Afghans, and certainly not when US soldiers are going on a murder rampage. Look at what recently happened in Haditha, Iraq? The least I expect from an average American is to take responsibility for the mistakes of their government. Too bad your American arrogance has taken over your real American values and you’re just another American who has confused patriotism with blatant arrogance. Wake up, smell the coffee and get in touch with reality for a change!

well, i am going to clear one thing that , till now America is failed to his mission in afghanistan, killing innocent people of afghanistan like this is the sign of being timid, cancerning to Mr Becky Kelly saying with out America what Afghans will do? Mr Kelly should read afghanistan’s history.
Afghans know how to fight , how to defeat the enemies and knows why America want to stay in Afghanistan.Afghanistan is the only land who do not accept stranger, and no one can accupy afghanistan.it’s the land of Lions.
American should learn the bad experience from British.
