During the last couple of days more than 100 people have died as a result of violence in various provinces in Afghanistan. The Afghan authorities have once again accused Pakistan in playing an active role in backing Taliban to destablise the already delicate situation in Afghanistan. On the other hand, Pakistani officials denied the accusations leveled by Afghanistan. The current offensive by Taliban has shown the vulnerability of situation on the ground. Dramatic increase in suicide bombings has increased fears that situation in Afghanistan will be similiar to that in Iraq in a couple of months.

The Westren Backed Government has been on its efforts to weaken the Northren Alliance since it has come to power, which has been a blow for itself to manage to control the situation in the south. I believe if the Afghan Gov does not change its strategy, it will completely fail. The current Gov having good finanicial possibilites unprecedented in Aghanistan history lucks good strategy. I do not understand why the international community led by USA has failed to install good competent figures to run the political affairs of this country. This gov has got a poor control just on the central capital kabul, the situation in South is totally out of control. I am on the faith that the Afghan police and army will not be able to resist against a 1000strong group. Increasing spate of violence in the south, west and east indicates that the days of the present Gov are being numbered unless a new strategy is made.

Guys I apoligise for my fellow Pakistani’s ’sisters’ outrage. She has reliefd on facts to make those comments but it is also a fact htat not all Pakistani’s hate Afghanis. Why else would we have accepted over 3 million Afghani brethren as refugees. Our brethren could and still can and do set up shops and businesses in Pakistan, are free to travel anywhere in Pakistan, send their children to schools in Pakistan. Yet our brethren hate us. Why?. Pakistanis gave up their lives, their homes, thier wealth to help brethren (please do not forget other Muslims who came to Afghnistan to fight the Russinas). Together we fought off the Russians. We should have celebrated the victory together. we did not. Why? There is an interesting background to this, but for later.
Here an interesting piece of information: Pakistan army came up with new guerilla warfare techniques during this the war against the Russians. They passed these on to Mujahideen whos used these to devastating effect against USSR army. Pakistan army then secured ’stinger’ missiles from America for the Mujahideen. Now trhe Mujihideen could destroy USSr war-planes and helipcoters in the air.
Her is another piece of interesting fact: to motivate Pakistan army the late General Zia siad to the Pakistani general: we call ourselves soldiers of God. If you really believe that, now is the time to acheive sheedath’. Or words to that effect. I cannot recall the exact word used.

Next would have been Iran and its oil! then Arabs and their oil. This would have sent shivers down the spines of the European and American, and they were very aware of this. Could we have been seeing the end of world by mutual destuction by use of ‘weapons of mass destruction?’
World should build a monument to those who gave up their lives for the freedom of the world, saved its oil and the economy. Oil, that would have used by the Russians to blackmail the west.

Someone here stated that Pakistan benifitted when it absorbed more than 5.5 million (new UN estimates) Afghan refugees from 1980 onwards! Are they nuts???? The country has been shattered by the influx of so many refugees. All of the beautiful forests have been chopped down especially near the refugee camps, TB & Polio where re-introduced into Pakistan (they were whipped out in the late 60’s/early 70’s), the Kalashnikov culture spread throughout the country with arms, drugs, and the new phenomenon of Prostitution being introduced which was next to non-existent in the country prior to the refugees arrival. And worst of all, terrorist and armed factious organization got a foothold in the country all due to us ‘helping our Muslim brothers’ in Afghanistan. And then to top it off, Afghans have the audacity to talk badly of Pakistan and of Pakistanis accusing its government/politicians publicly of encouraging terrorism in its country?? Now I know that not all Afghans are like this, but those that arent havent spoken out and corrected this nonsense but remain silent and so complacent.. are the same as those same backstabbers. You cant go around, using peoples hospitality and then turning around and stabbing them in the back. We Pakistanis already have our plates full dealing with 1 Billion plus Indians and the world community (especially US, UK, Europe & Israel) due to our being the only Islamic Nuclear power and non-oil producing yet multicultural and ecomically resilient country. I’ve heard my grandparents (one’s name was Afghana Khan ironically!) used to talk that if one day, Pakistan and Afghanistan could join up in a confederation, problems in both countries would be finished as there would no single dominant group, and all would united in a common Islamic Pak Afghan faith, he would say the whole world would crumble at our feet as you would have a great collection of strong willed and resilient Muslim peoples with bountiful resources and suffient geographic size) that dream IMO is burried in the ground way too deep as there is too much hatred now(just as our enemies wanted) and too many Pakistanis feel like they’ve been used, abused and have become quite fed-up and simply want all Afghans out of their country.
